Newsletter header reading September 2026, newsletter 012, alongside the logo of the gallery and a design featuring an anniversary cake to mark our first year anniversary.

It's hard to believe, but it's been a whole year since we first threw open our doors. And what a wonderfully imaginative, collaborative, and joyful year it's been!

To celebrate, we're throwing a party (obviously), and we would love for you and your young artists to be part of it! Alongside your invite, we've got a brand new programme of creative classes ready for sign-ups, a free workshop we're especially excited about, and a nostalgic scroll back through a very busy summer. We're even sharing a few 'behind-the-scenes' pictures and some of our personal highlights from twelve months of gallery life.

So pull up a chair, get settled, and let's celebrate this year of community and creativity together!

New Term, New Schedule: Weekly Creative Classes

At the heart of everything we do is one simple idea: creative freedom. Our classes are non-prescriptive, introducing children to various mediums and techniques, and letting them follow their own creative path, wherever it leads. There's no "right" way to finish a piece, so by ditching the pressure of a uniform end product, every session remains playful, spontaneous, and bursting with discovery.

Along the way, our young creatives get hands-on with painting, printing, weaving, clay, collage, and much, much more. Classes are kept small (just 8 places per class), so be sure to book early to grab a spot!

Free Cyanotype Workshop - 26th of September 2026

We love cyanotype at the Space to Dream Gallery, because it's like magic captured in blue! It's one of the oldest photographic techniques around, and it works using sunlight. You simply place objects, like leaves, flowers, lace, or anything with an interesting shape, onto specially treated paper, then let the sun do its thing. Rinse it with water, and just like that, you've got a one-of-a-kind print, no cameras required!

Photo collage of an example of cyanotype printing with a portrait of Ingrid Guyon who will lead the cyanotype workshop. The collage also include the logo for Fotosynthesis, the organisation Ingrid works for.

We are especially excited to welcome Ingrid Guyon, a talented photographer and filmmaker, from Fotosynthesis, who will be hosting a workshop on this wonderful technique on the 26th of September, between 13.30 and 15.00.

Spaces are FREE, but limited to 8 per sessions, so be quick to secure a spot for your young artist. Click the button below to email us and register your interest.

Behind The Scenes

Between exhibitions, classes, workshops, funding applications (so, so many funding applications), and community outreach, there's a lot going on behind the scenes. But some of our favourite moments are the slightly frenzied ones; just the two of us thrashing out ideas, wrestling with a new installation, or hunting down inspiration wherever it's hiding. Honestly, we probably have as much fun in those messy, caffeinated hours, as the children we're doing it all for!

Photo collage including 9 different photographs of Morgane and Fran doing different gallery-related activities and smiling. On all pictures they look like they are having fun.

Our highlights of the year

Picking just a few was hard, but here's what stuck with us most:

The phone call:

"Fran, Fran, we got it! We got the funding!" If you'd seen us in that moment, you'd have thought we'd won the lottery. And in a way, we had. Getting the grant from Arts Council England meant that we could remain open, and keep on championing children and their boundless creativity (well, at least for another few months).

Opening day:

Hands down, the highlight of highlights. Watching our doors open for the first time, cutting that ribbon, and seeing our little gallery fill with art, families, and happy chatter is a moment neither of us will ever forget.

Setting up a collaborative project:

Finding ourselves under a pile of cardboard boxes to set up our giant Christmas tree, or tracing a massive anatomical heart for our LOVE exhibition; these times are often chaotic, a little ridiculous, and very joyful, which pretty much sums up how we run this place.

A full room, fully focused:

Some of our favourite moments aren't the big ones, they're the quiet ones. A full class, with every child completely absorbed in their own creation, is when we remember exactly why we do this.

Thank you for being part of a year that's given us all of this, and more. Here's to twelve more months of it, hopefully!

A Look Back At Our Busy Summer!

What a summer it's been! Our free creative summer programme recently wrapped and it was full of colour, joy and community spirit from start to finish. A huge thank you to every creative who joined us along the way; whether you popped in with your toddler for Under 5's, made art with us in the park, got stuck into a Studio Session, or dropped by for Family Fridays. You've all made this season one to remember!

Photo collage featuring 9 photographs taken during different sessions of the creative summer programme. It displays a variety of creative activities; painting on canvas and on rocks, weaving, using oil pastels and felt-tip pens, and making 3D cake pieces.
